The short version: what you type into the calculator never leaves your device. Here is the whole picture, in plain language.
- What stays on your device
- The financial details you type — income, debts, down payment, the price you explore — never leave your browser. They are never transmitted to us and never sold. To run the calculator, your browser fetches this site's own pages and the static data files behind it: the ZIP-to-county index, your county's cost data, and the weekly mortgage-rate file. Those requests carry a ZIP-derived filename, nothing you typed. The site also makes cookie-free analytics requests — a visit-counting beacon and a few anonymous usage events, like noting that a calculation finished or a share link was copied — all described below; none of them include anything you entered. Share links carry a scenario in the URL's hash fragment, which browsers never send to any server.
- What our infrastructure sees
- Cloudflare serves this site. Like any web host, it processes the standard information needed to deliver a page — your IP address and ordinary request logs (which page, when, your browser type). That is a normal part of how the internet works and is separate from the numbers you enter in the calculator, which never reach it.
- Analytics
- We use privacy-respecting, cookie-free analytics to make the tool better: a beacon that counts page visits, and a few anonymous usage events — for example, that a calculation finished, a share link was copied, or a sponsored link was clicked. These record only the action and the page it happened on — never anything you typed, no ZIP, and no identifier. This kind of measurement does not track you across other sites and is designed so that no consent banner is required. If we ever add tools that would require your consent, we will ask you first.
- Partner links
- Some links are clearly labeled Sponsored. If you click one, you leave for the partner's own site, and from that point their privacy policy governs what they collect. Partners may pay us per click or per lead. This never changes the numbers the calculator shows — the math is the same whether or not a link is paid.
- We only collect an email address if you ever explicitly opt in to something that asks for one. No such thing exists today, and there is no account to create and no newsletter to join.
